Disk Brake Trouble...
Hi all, I'm new here!
Well, I was cleaning off my rear disc brake the other day, and when I rubbed one of the bolts, the top(where you put in the hex wrench) rubbed right off! Is this OK? Can I still ride? If I had to get a new disc, what would you guys recommend, it needs to be 6" |

Is it ok for me to ride with it?

Not if the bolt head is coming off like that. The others might too.

Bummer oh well I guess I'll wait till after Christmas cuz the shops will be packed (and I really hope i get a new bike, mine just hasn't held up for the little stuff I throw at it. Why did they name it Extreme X1 if the shock and brakes are coming apart after a few 4ft drops?
|
4ft drops on a $600 bike... nope, it's just not happening...

Anything that is labeled as Extreme is 9 times out of 10 a marketing gimmick. |
Well, it held up! I did do a cool crash tho and ended up bending my spokes... oh well Christmas is tomorrow! Merry Christmas everyone!!

What are they making bolts out of? Clay??? Seriously, that couldn't have happened how you said it did.

Someone over-torqued the bolt and twisted off the bolt-head free. They realized this and left it there ... or they glued it back on. I twisted off a bolt head once using a little too much elbow grease. I rode it for quite a while at about 270#.
If your LBS assembled the bike, you should ask them to extract the bolt and replace it. In the meantime, feel free to ride on it unless it is the front on a serious downhill bike. |
