need tires..pain in my a$$

Looking for new tires for my 06 stumpy fsr..I mostly ride single track, loose, sometimes muddy, some roots and rocks, in southern CT. Any ideas?? I was looking at the wtb wier wolfs and pana fire's. The tires that came on my bike suck, if there's any hint of wet or loose stuff, they wash out on me. any help would be greatly appreciated, i'm not really interested in forking over alot of money on tires that don't work.....

Panaracer Fire's are nice, but I have moved to Kenda Nevegal's. For your Stumpy, go with the 2.1" DTC compound.

Very versatile tire.

Being in CT, avoid the Weirwolfs like the plague. Their sidewalls do not hold up to things like rocks.

I'd recommend the Panaracer Fires or Maxxis High Roller/ADvantage.

Maxxis mobster. The best. Nice sidewalls and riding along loose stuff, and great for the wet mud stuff. Even great on cement. If you can find one in 2.1's then youre good to go.

Panaracer Fires are good, but i'd recommened Maxxis Ignitors in loose conditions and mud. I've being riding the 2.35" version for over a year now and have had no complaints. Where i usually ride the conditions are loose and rocky, and the Ingitors hook up very well. As for the Panaracer Fire's.... well they suck on rocks and roots.

Is there any reason to ay twice as much for the 127tpi pana fires vs the 60tpi?

I use my bike for trial riding and cross country in Eastern NC.

Didn't the Stumpy come with the Roll-X Pro? I've had great luck with that tire over the last couple of years. I'm on my second set now and plan to stick with them for the foreseeable future.

Yes the 127tpi are better. I had the 60, and they wear fast. Ie. dont ever ride them on ashfelt.

I didn't mind the panaracers, but they were quite slow. I like the NEVEGALS by Kenda, as they are much faster but still have good cornering grip.

I ride in Cockaponset all the time and have had good luck with WTB Velociraptors. That's all I've used for 5 + years.

On my 06 FSR, I swapped out the stock tires (too many spin outs on out of the saddle climbs and turns) for old school Panaracer Smoke & Dart. I've been using them for about 15 years. They work. They roll well. They're cheap at about $35 a set at Performance.

All tires hold mud, just like shoes. Only way to get it off is to get on dryer terrain and go fast to sling it off.

Nevegals were judged as the best by some mag a few years ago, but they cost twice as much and I'm fairly certain they'll hold mud like the rest of them. YMMV.

I use those on my hard tail and love them, I just want a higher volume tire on my stumpy....

Mine came with resolutions and I hate them. No traction whatsoever. Unless its dry hardpack, they're useless........

I'm looking at the maxxis minuons, pana fire xc pro's, or the kenda nevangals....I havent decided which ones yet, but atleast im finlly down to three......

+1 for the Kenda Nevangals

Have them on my bike and I love them. Very seldom do i expierence wheel slip, when I do I usually end up walking up the hill. It has a solid footing in rocks, roots, and anything loose. Don't ride them on ashpault or concrete, they are loud and wear fast.

Nevegals.

Also, in my experience, WTB tires are horrible, but then most of you know I have a thing against WTB products.

I just started riding the panaracers, man you are right! We ride 2 miles on the road to get to the trails, I kill myself trying to keep up. Everyone else is cruising along and I can hear my tires going WhirrWhirr every time I pedal. But they never slip, and when I start using faster tires later this year I am going to be much faster than I was last year!

I have IRC Mythos II and absolutely love them! They are often on sale for cheap which makes them that much better.

When I bought them I knew exactly what I wanted and I was looking for a very specific tread pattern for the often loose (when dry) or muddy singletrack in the Northwest. Including: 1) deep treads 2) no slopes on either the braking or acceleration side which are often found on other tires and ultimately reduce traction. These fit the bill perfectly!

I've heard that the Nevegals wear quickly. I put one for my front tire, and the Panaracer Fire for the rear, which has the knobs closer together and should last longer.

The cheapest place I've seen Panaracers is wheelworld.com--they're $24.99 pretty much all the time (at least that's what they say at the actual store in the valley).
