Chamois Cream

Do you use Chamois cream, butter?

born2bahick 01-09-07 07:55 AM

What? no option for bacon grease?

LowCel 01-09-07 08:08 AM

I use it pretty often. My favorite is the Assos cream. It's a little more expensive than the others but it's worth it.

ghettocruiser 01-09-07 08:24 AM

Only on long road rides.

ed 01-09-07 09:56 AM

I have often wondered who that stuff was for. I never get chaffed or sore down there, but I think the longest ride I've done was only 4hrs.

CaptMatt15 01-09-07 10:00 AM

i dont even wear padded shorts... in fact i hate them...

probable556 01-09-07 10:57 AM

On centuries and 60+ mile training rides I use a little 10% hydrocortisone to prevent damage.

Yup. I'm an Assos man also. (gee, that didn't sound right) I used to have issues with saddle sores, however, all issues are now gone with this stuff. It smells more medicated than most. I dunno if that's why it works so well (for me) or not???

Praise the Assos!

I don't use anything either. :)

I'm right there with ya.. I don't like feeling like I am wearing a diaper. I guess I just have a comfortable seat on my bike though and really don't have a need for them.

pinkrobe 01-09-07 10:13 PM

No creams for me. I commute daily without padded shorts, so when I do wear chamois-equipped shorts, I'm lovin' life.

mcoomer 01-09-07 10:31 PM

Have never needed it on my mountain bikes but use it religiously on longer road rides.

BTW...you should try Nair. I hear it works wonders. If you do try it be sure to give a report OK?

We could call it the MEGA CHAFE ride.

never said I was riding 8 technical hours... I've went around 35 miles of XC trail (around 4 hours I'd guess, who am I kidding probably probably closer to 5) without shorts a few times, usually my shoulders/neck are hurting more than any part that would be affected by a pad.. I just wear compression shorts and some other shorts over those. On my normal ~20 mile rides that works for me

Anyway I'll switch to some quality bike shorts if I start to feel the need or as you put it mega chafe.

I would think all the flopping around would hurt after a while, and the dirt!
:p

Yes, but only for longer Rides and Centuries...

Ditto. I get by fine with synthetic boxers for shorter (<2 hours) rides and unpadded tight boxers for longer (up to 9 hours so far) road rides. I'm very lightly built, maybe that has something to do with it.

I recently bought some shorts with chamois pads. I'm trying to figure out if I can unstitch the pads without destroying the shorts. They sure do feel funny when walking about.

LowCel 01-10-07 07:10 AM

I don't see how you all can do it. I couldn't imagine riding without padded shorts, not even an hour. I guess I'm just a wuss or something. :o

erhan 01-10-07 07:27 AM

I didn't know that a cream for this purpose existed. I'm definitely ordering one.

Check out the Assos cream or the Chamois Butt'r. Both are great products.

erhan 01-10-07 08:20 AM

Thanks LowCel :)

yeah... I'm 6'4" and weight something like 165-170, so I'm thinking that has a little to do with it...

and if I could find some good shorts that had long enough legs to keep it from looking like I was wearing daisy dukes I'd actually try them (i have long thighs).

cryptid01 01-10-07 09:11 AM

I occasionally use chamois butt'r, usually the day after a long wet ride.

I found the sensation to be disconcerting at first, but ultimately liberating. ;)
