Take it back to you shop. They will tune it back up. After a while a new bike will kind of lossen up and will need to be readjusted. They should do it for free.

i had the same problem, and i was able to fix it myself. all it takes is some patience, and slight turning of a few screws.

there really isn't too much you can screw up with the derailleur, if you think about it... theres only around 4 things you can change... and it only takes maybe one turn to fix it.

its as simple as reading this page. https://sheldonbrown.com/derailer-adjustment.html

and don't worry if you screw things up a little, thats why we're here. :]

of course, thats if you wanna learn, and your lbs does end up charging you.

Cables stretch. Take it to you LBS, they'll fix it in 5 seconds for free.

As the others have said its most likely that the cable is just stretching. In the link posted above (ttp://sheldonbrown.com/derailer-adjustment.html) look for the index adjusting section. The picture has an arrow pointed to the "adjusting barrel". You probably just need to tighten that up. Just follow the instructions. Put it on the largest chain ring and the smallest cog, click up one click and if it doesnt shift immediately, tighten the barrel. Keep doing it until it just takes one click to change gears. Good luck.

Normally I would point you to instructions for adjusting the derailleur and shifters but since it is new you should take it to the shop. If it's simply cable stretch they'll knock it out in a few seconds. If it's something worse they'll see it and get it taken care of before you damage your new ride. The LBS is going to make a lot of money off you now that your riding so take advantage of all the freebies you can.

My LBS always tells me to bring the bike back after the kid rides it a bit - exactly because of such required adjustments.... of course, the kid can do them himself now.
