Upgrading 2005 Kona Kikapu?

I've had a Kona Kikapu from 2005 for a couple years now. It's a nice bike, I love the geometry, but I never loved the ride. I had a specialized fsr xc comp before this (sadly, stolen), and I always thought that had a smoother ride. Is it worth buying a new fork, or even a new rear shock? Is it overkill to spend $400 bucks on a front fork for a two year old $1100 bike?

They shocks are both pretty basic. The front shock might be the weak link -- it's a marzocchi mz comp, which I gather isn't so well-regarded. The rear shock is fox float.

Anyone have any experience, or advice, on upgrading a Kikapu? (Actually, the 2005 Kikapu is comparable to the 2006 and 2007 Kikapu Deluxe, I gather). Is the Kikapu frame worth spending more $$$ on better parts? It sure seems solid.

Thanks for any help!
