1998 Gary Fisher Paragon

I recently dug this bike out of storage -- where it had been since new. No trail use whatsoever. And, as a roadie, I have a few newbie questions as I start to dive into some mtb'ing (mostly fire roads, nothing too technical, at least for now).

1) Shocks are Rock Shox Indy SL. They have been sitting idle for 8-9 years. Anything I should worry about there?

2) The wtb saddle is quite spartan. I was thinking of taking the selle italia prolink off my road bike... but, it has carbon rails. Do you think they can withstand mtb use? As I said, will be mostly fire roads, but hilly (and sometimes rocky) fire roads.

3) Of the components, which ones are most "out of date" and best candidates for (eventual) upgrade? Indy fork, Shimano deore LX rapid fire SL shifters, LX front der., XT rear der., Avid 20 brakes. Link to full specs:

4) Have bar ends fallen out of favor? After one ride, I never used them... so was thinking of removing them. Just wondering if there will be a time that I will find them particularly handy.

Thanks in advance for any input!

personally if its just been sitting not beening used i would leave it how it is and ride. if the bar ends bother you take them off but they are nice on long rides.
