I found a place with '05 Juicy 5's on closeout and I could pick up a pair of them for less than $200. Is this a good deal or is there something about the '05 that would make me want to skip on the deal. Also, what are some other dics brakes I may be able to pick up for less than $200 for a pair (yes front and back, I know, I'm cheap). I know that pretty much limits me to closeouts for decent hydros. I already have the BB7's on my consideration list so no need to expound on the glory of BB7's. That said I need a set of disc brakes with good stopping power and a good feel. I mostly ride XC and don't race... not yet anyway. Thanks.

My front brake is an 05 Juicy 5, and i just ordered a rear 05 Juicy 5 today. Ive never had any issues with mine, they are incredibly easy to set up.

It sounds like no-one has any issues with them. I am now wondering if I want a 6" or 7" rotor for the front. I am fairly light, normally around 160 during the summer and I ride mainly XC. I just want to be able to handle long descents if I take a trip out to the mountains. I really doubt anything around here (eastern, WI) will even give a 6" a run for it money. I don't have experience with the big hills so I dont know how much brake is required. Also, I have a rockshox tora 318, will this fork even handle a 7" rotor? Thanks!

About a year on them, work fine, I like them

Downside is I find them kind of on-or-off though, more than even the hayes.

fork should be fine with one of the larger rotors. you're referring to the ~180mm....right?

i would go bigger. wouldn't you rather have too much brake than not enough?? price isn't really the issue, so go with the larger front and feel comfortable knowing you have enough brake for more demanding situations. for less demanding terrain? simple, don't squeeze lever as much

I've had 6" Juicy 5's for a year now. I love them too.

Occasional brake drag but nothing too annoying.

I weigh 185 ish and like to jump around and stuff...not just XC. I'm on a 5" dually and the 6" have been more than enough.

The 05 sets sometimes had problems with sticking and slowly retracting pistons.

Easy fix is/was to open things up, pop the pistons all the way out. Make sure the piston square edge o-rings are in good shape, lube them up with brake fluid, reinstall everything, and do a fresh bleed.

Did that with two sets; both still working just fine now over a year later. Draining out the stock DOT-4 fluid and replacing with DOT-5.1 makes for some nice brakes as well; withstands heat/fading much better.

I ended up going with '06 Juicy 5's, 160mm rotors, front and back after talking to the guy at unreal cycles. I'm pretty confident they will be fine after talking to him. Thanks for all the input.
