is 40 lbs alot for a full suspension mtb to weight ?

It depends on what kind of bike it is. For cross country riding, thats insanely heavy. For a downhill bike, thats about average I'd dare say.

Depends like everyone is saying. For a XC bike, uhh, it might be alittle heavy For an "all mountain bike" yeah, still pretty heavy. For a freeride/DH/DH race bike, it's not bad.

My XC stumpjumper FSR weighs 28 lbs. I would never ride a bike that's over 30. But, I don't do jumps, just XC.

my all mountain bike weighs 34 pounds( Devinci Guzzler). whatever doesnt kill ya' makes you stronger.
I dont race so weight doesnt matter as much to me as redundent strength and durability

Dunno, my full suspension bikes weigh 22 pounds and 25 pounds. They are perfect for me, wouldn't last long for downhill or freeriding though.
