Another tubeless tire question.

I know I have asked a similar question to this before.------

Has anyone done any combos of tubeless tires.. like a Scorpion in front with the Python in back? They don't have to be the "Hutchinson" brand.

I want a good set up for mountain riding. Colorado. I have an XC bike and the tubeless pythons are great, I just want to know if I should switch over to something different while I'm out in the “Rockeys”.

I've tried all SORTS of combos in tubeless. I've run Michelin Jet S semi slicks, Michelin XLS in front and rear, the XLS in the rear, and the Front S in the front, the Hutchinson Pythons front and rear, Panaracer Trailblasters front and rear... all sorts of stuff. And the most solid performers I could find were the Michelin XLS in the rear and the Front S in the front. I guarantee if you run those tires you WONT be disappointed reguardless of the terrain. They work in loose sand, deep, sticky, mud, roots, rock gardens, everything.

I've tried a few myself, but the Pythons ought to do fine out there. I rode there last summer on Pythons with no problems. Remember to carry a tube and if you have to patch the tire, scrape the area to be patched very well or the patch won't stick.

Yeah, I don't know what it is with me and the Pythons but I've had some terrible luck. I have patched the rear (which is now trash as a result of a ripped sidewall) tire 3 times and just had to patch the front today. The rear tire (Python tube) I was borrowing for the ride today also ended up with a sidewall slit. Luckily it was at the end of the 23 mile Berryman ride.

If I wouldn’t keep flatting these tires would have been great.. they are fast and hold up awesome for the races but when it comes to just hitting the trails, there they go.

Are most of your tires laced with beefy threads, with the exception of the Pythons? My riding style is "Shouldn't be riding XC but that is the bike I have" or "You are too rough on that XC bike, looks like fun" or "You are a beast on the trail"... :D :D

Jim311 05-22-03 10:27 PM

Are they beefy? Hell yea!!

Tons of knobs to hook up in any terrain.

Jim311 05-22-03 10:28 PM

Check out these beasts!

"Check out these beasts!"

Oh my gosh! What are those called? - THE KILLER SNAIL They have to be some slow rolling tires. I bet they cut up the trail real bad.. I take it you have use those before...

Jim311 05-23-03 06:36 AM

I haven't seen any tubeless street tires in production yet. But when they're made, I imagine they'll be the envy of roadies everywhere :o

Yeah, I'm a roadie that swings both ways

The best all around tubless I've run out here has been the Python...on an NRS-1. And I'm not easy on my stuff either! I cracked an NRS frame...

Well, these are the tires I picked up.. Pricepoint.com -$44.98 for both!
http://pricepoint.com/media/Kenda_KharismaTires.jpg

And I couldn't forget these guys.. sad though, there is a backorder on them for over 60 days!!! So if all else fails I will have them waiting for me when I get home. Great price on them at Supergo.com27.95 for Hutchinson-Python-UST :D

Thx to those of you who helped me out on different sites to shop from around the net I believe that I got some good deals... I don't think I could have done the same at the LBS' around here. But don't worry, I still haven't forgotten them.

    Jim311 05-23-03 08:31 PM

Around here the equivalent tires run 60 dollars APIECE! I'm all for supporting the LBS, but not when I have to pay twice as much for the same thing!

    Wait 05-23-03 09:09 PM

One bad thing, with prices so much cheaper I tend to spend a lot more... go figure.

    Jim311 05-23-03 09:28 PM

Yea, but at least you get twice as much stuff for the LBS price!

    Wait 05-23-03 10:34 PM

Yeah, that was a feeble attempt at throwing a hook out to the LBS for them to lower their prices!!!! :D :D

    Jim311 05-23-03 11:08 PM

I don't feel guilty in the least for trying to make my money go the farthest. Going to the LBS for small things that I need right away is about the only time I go there. Sometimes they act ****ty to you if you bring in stuff you've bought online.. just one more reason for me to maintenance my own bike.
