how many of you would buy a completely new gear system right away...especially since the company has not produced this type of shifter before....or would you wait 6-12 months to make sure all the kinks are out of the system?

They've been in production for some time. They're just now being released for public use.

I would wait until my current system dies (aka my deraileur) then I would make sure it was reasonable to buy. I am more against the xtr stuff being moved down to my LX range. I will wait but before I buy new shimano I would buy these...

I run a full SRAM system. An XO derailler/shifters, a SRAM 9.0 cassette, and a SRAM PC 99 chain. I assure you there aren't any kinks to be worked out

I used to run a PC99 Hollow Pin...

Might be a nice concept for the road, but I found that it would load up on dirt. Not only in the hollowed out pins, but the links seemed to collect much more dirt than my PC59. I would clean it, rinse it, and clean it again and it would still sound like I just dragged it across a beach.

I ended up ditching it for the 59 and am happy so far

Edit: The Sram triggers look good...Maybe I'll try them out when my XTR stuff gives up the ghost.

I have a pre-hollow pin PC99... it was the top of the line chain before the hollow pin design came out. It works great, doesn't seem to load up with dirt either.

They just look like an updated version of their older ones. If they work the same I believe they will have the same problem as the older ones. The thing riders did not like was the fact that the thumb shifter most be pushed down rather then forward. That is the biggest complaint rides had.

Funny thing, I just picked up an old issue of Mountain Bike, and started reading, it had a review of the SRAM trigger shifters in it.

I think that the issue was from August or September of 2001, is this a two year wait for this product? Did they delay release until some bugs are ironed out? In the review, they did bemoan the fact that the triggers didnt opperate in the same fasion as Shimano's did, and also the amount of force required made shifting difficult.

It would be cool if they had fixed the amount of force, but the fact that its 1:1 ration, maybe thats the reason? With a 2:1 ratio like shimano, you do have that mechanical advantage, but this should be easily overcome with a little engineering.

Only time will tell.

Yea, the trigger shifters have been out for a while, but I think this is the new and updated version.


Bokkie- I hear ya... I've still got an XT front derailler. I got it for like 15 bucks though, and it does it's job, so I really can't complain. If it ever breaks I will seek out a different type.. but front deraillers aren't something you break very often. I also have XT hubs.. but other than that my bike is devoid of Shimano componentry

By the way... how are those XO shifters working out for you?
