Question..... dont laugh!!
Hey, Ive got a question, those of you like me who have a friend who recently was neutered, how long after surgery did um, you "friend" rest before they got back on the bike / trail?
1 week, 1 month? Its been raining here, so My friend doesn't have to make excuses... but he was wondering if anyone had a friend who could offer some frame of reference. Scoob's friend ;) |
STOP LAUGHING!!
|
My best friend was neutered, and never got back on.....but that's okay, they don't make little dog tandems anyway...
Seriously, though, you may want to check out this thread: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?threadid=14706 |
No offense, but why would you do that to yourself? (Not directed at anyone, just a general question). The only reason i see is if your married with kids and have the family already.

no offence, ummm yeah... two kids, and twins due in a month... er my friend has them.. Yeah... that it... I am actually puzzled, im in no way trying to offend anyone, i just want to hear why some people go through with it, ive heard it can help prevent Testicular cancer, and if it ran in the family or something then yea, but im not sure thats true. Theres no point in being ignorant, if you didnt want to answer just dont. If you have no interest in kids and in fact don't generally like them and never see a need or want for them and you are a full grown adult...I can see a reason for it |
Originally posted by Dazza Yeh i suppose, i hate kids, even though im still quite young myself. I would still want to produce the "goods" though ;) |
Dazza, I wasnt being ignorant, Im sorry, I was basically saying that four kids is enough.
As far as the comments about testicular cancer??? YIKES DUDE, I used the term neutered, I ment a Vasectomy. Neutered is slang for that round these parts. My question was basicaly for Mountain Bikers, who have had the procedure. I am wondering how soon they were able to get back on the trail and ride. The road is um, well, less punishing as far as jarring when riding. Inkwolf, thanks for the revist on the previous thread. Lets see if I can be an Ironman, I'll let ya know later if I hold up or not. |
Sorry, my fault.
I should have guessed, the names some people use for getting their dogs/cats neutered, heres a few ive heard Neutralised Spaded Speared There were more but i cant remember some. Oh and just incase your wondering, i work in the local vets. :) |
I had two patients who were mountain bikers (hard core, one of them did the 24 hrs of adrenalin with me) who had vasectomies. Both were back in the saddle after two weeks. One had to ice after each ride but I think he started after a week.
By the way, a vasectomy is the number one form of birth control in the US. It is safer than laproscopic surgery for tubal ligation in women (cutting the ovarian tubes) which is essentially abdominal surgery and runs the risk of adhesion formation and future small bowel obstruction, safer than taking a birth control pill which increases the risk of blood clots and stroke in women, cheaper than buying condoms for another 20 years ......and shall I add..... more natural in feeling and less clumsy than messing with a diaphram and less messy than messing with foam. |

I've always wanted to pull up an old thread. Anyone have comments on this topic? Actually, let me rephrase that. Anyone have some useful information from personal experience?
Time to go get another bag of ice and a beer. |

Time to go get another bag of ice and a beer. I got snipped after number two. Best thing I ever did. Kids are a wonderment of life - - and stay the wonderment that they are in the proper quantities. Been so long I cannot remember about recovery time. |
It's been four years, I think he's probably recovered by now...
|
I just pulled this old thread up....am getting snipped in january....am hoping to get back on the bike 2-3 weeks afterwards, from others' experience, is this reasonable or too soon??

- I am cool. Running around robbing banks all wacked off of Scooby Snacks! |
2 weeks is fine, well was for me, just don't forget to use polysporin (sp?) the first few days, so you don't get infection .... you don't need bowling balls!!
|
haha
I thought you were talking about your dog at first, as if he was your riding buddy.
|

doug Or don't take this advice and have sex sooner than that. I can't think of a crafty metaphor to equal how uncomfortable you'll feel. As for the bikin'... Ride the bike gingerly at first and take it to your comfort zone. You'll be tip-top in no time at all. |
With twins on the way...I'd say it'll be several years before you, huh, your friend can hit the trails.
