New bike?

I would like to buy a new bike and i am not sure what bike i want to get. i currently ride a Haro V4 i dont like the shimano deore gears they kip way too much for me. i want a good dual suspension bike that has good enough parts that the gears wont mess up every time i shift. looking around $2500

If your asking for help, be patient. A really good bike and popular for the price is the Kona Stinky. Not to say thats the only one. I am not totaly sure, but I think the Specialized Bighit might be just a bit over. Brodie does have some stuff, but I would try and to say away from thier lower end stuff. Iron horse is a good choice for that price range.

Of course, I gave you all the FR/DH I could think of. Should have specified maybe?

How can we reccomend a bike for you without knowing how you plan on riding it? XC rides? All day trail rides? Shuttle bike? DHing? ALl around bike?

Come on man.

I have a super-duper XTR drivetrain that will cost only $2450 that you can use to upgrade your Haro with. I'm saving you $50 and I'll throw in a sticker or two.

Seriously though, if your drivetrain is skipping it either needs servicing or is worn out. Do you not like the bike, other than the shifting? What do you use the bike for, what type of riding?

i am pretty much looking at all-mountian and cross country bikes. for example i have found that i like the yeti 575, and the specialized epic comp.

i ride the worst texas has to offer (which is saying ALOT!! lol jk) i want to be able to do everything comftorbly not necisarily fast. i race/ride to have fun not to win. and about the haro, i took poor care of it and it is in terrible shape (to be honest).

I'm thinking a specialized enduro elite. what is yalls opinion on that?

You may want to narrow down your search...the Epic is nothing like the 575 or Enduro.

What about the Remedy 6? You're in DFW. Bicyles INC in Fort Worth, or Bicycles Plus/Richardson Bike Mart in Dallas are dealers.

AtomicMongoose1 03-25-07 08:23 AM

I looked at the remedy 6. the reason i didnt include it is because i have had a bad past with shjimano deore parts

I have Deore level stuff on the bike I put the most miles on...as long as I keep it clean, lubed, and tuned, everything works fine. And that includes a lot of riding on crappy winter conditions.

I think your bad experiences with Deore stuff comes from a lack of tuning and maintenance so I wouldn't write off any bike just because it has Deore components.

Go sram.

*waits for the fight to begin*

my friend has lower end sram and i love it over my shimano. my other friend has top of the line sram and it is orgasmicly smooth

At comparable levels, they should have similar performance if tuned properly. The differences generally come down to personal preference...personally, I prefer SRAM because of the trigger setup and the stiffer spring...I have X.0 on my DH bike and X.9 on my trail bike but I also have XT, LX, and Deore on other bikes in the garage.

My point is don't write off choosing a bike just because it has Deore components...it may be the bike/frame that fits you the best. Parts like shifters and derailleurs can easily be swapped.
