I would reccomend the Marin.
5'8..maybe 17 especially-18in frame. It;s best to get fitted first.

I'd go with the Marin. I'm around 5'9 and ride a 17 inch Marin. The geometry has probably changed since 04 though.. I test rode a 15 17 and 18.5.. the 18 was huge and the 15 had lots of toe overlap that i didn't like.

419 sounds expensive for that though.. I'd wait for a sale.

the Marin also has a more stretched geometry than the other bike.. more seat angle and a longer toptube. If you want a more upright geometry like the Novara.. I'd try the usual suspects a trek 4300 or a hardrock
