Manitou Axel or Rockshox Dart 3?

Hey guys,

The current front fork on my bike has a lot of play in it (front to back) and the seals are leaking. I don't think it is worth rebuilding so I am looking for a replacement disc-brake compatible fork. I wanted to keep the costs in the low $100 range, and I ran into these two models. The current fork seems to be a 80-mm model, but I think I would like to go with the 100-mm travel version for the replacement since a few jumps so far have caused me to bottom the shocks slightly. I should also note that most my riding is done XC style without any crazy jumps. With these said, are these forks decent entry level forks and would they be suitable for what I intend on doing with them? Also, if you know of any other options, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

they're decent entry level, i'd go for the dart. i love manitou, but imo the dart (aka. judy) is a better fork.

I don't personal experience, but check mtbr.com

I had an Axel years ago. Not only is it junk, but the Manitou tech support sucks. They don't know their product.

When I tried to replace the rebound damper unit sent to me free by Manitou, I found that I had to modify the tube with my Dremmel tool otherwise it would cut the seals. Apparently you needed a special tool which is common for Manitou repairs according to a Mountain Bike Action article last year. The new damper unit didn't work any better than the old unit.

Luckely, it self destructed in 6 months and I got a decent replacement. RockShok stuff is generally very good. The one I just got for the wifes bike is first class.
