Good FS AM for 1k

Hey, just was out with my buddy on the trails yesterday, and he ended up screwing up his bike pretty bad, f***ed up derailers, screwed up the brakes, and bent the rear derailer mount. It was an old Fischer Tarpoon, almost ready to go anyway. To cut it short, he wants around 5-6 inches of travel, front and rear, discs, and around 1 grand. What are your suggestions? Anybody here like the Remix? Or a Fuel? Any help would be great. Thanks.

The Fuel is an XC bike and doesn't have 5-6 inches of front/rear travel. Lots of people like Kona's AM bikes. My suggestion is not too "want" any bike model. Just go to your local shops, see what they have, and see what is on sale. This way you can get the best deal possible. Just go and see what is available. Deciding on a model will only end up costing you more because it won't be on sale. Lots of times you can get hundreds of dollars off a $1000 bike.

Sorry, didn't mean to call the Fuel a AM bike, and actually, the Fuel EX (depending on model) has 4.7 inches in the back, and as much as 5.5 in the front. Also, he would go to a bike store, but up here in WI, at least in our area, we only have Wheel and Sprocket, they only sell Trek products plus a few Giants. Thanks for your help.

I think an AM for that price might be hard to come by. A more XC oriented bike should be easier to come by (assuming you want new). KHS has a couple of bikes in the XC range that would work, the XC-104 and the XC-204.

As you can see by my signature, I might be a little biased though as I'm racing on a team bike this year. KHS usually has a good value to dollar ratio though. If there's a dealer near you, I'd at least check it out. If not, click the links below for more info. (the blue cyclist is a bike store and the KHS should take you directly to its site).

Are you looking used? It seems to be out of the price range (the best price I saw with a quick search was about $1600 CAD). I don't think it's too common of a brand, at least I haven't seen it posted on here before. The rocker arm looks like one I saw recently on a K2. Of course, I haven't done the comparison of geo.s to see if the K2 and Devinci are similar/same for a size. You might want to check out those too to see what's going on.

Last year's giant pistol was a cheap AM/fr bike. Heavy, but strong and cheap.
