My first bail with clipless pedals

Anyway, I was on Wagon Wheel up in Tamarancho the other day when I unsuccessfully tried to ratchet through that rocky section (my clearance isn't as high as I'd like it to be). I hit a pedal on a rock and immediately lost all forward momentum.

Oh crap.

I instinctively unclipped my right foot first even though I was falling toward my left. Whoops. On the way down I managed to unclip my left foot and I barely got both of my feet on the slope, though I was still falling.

Another hop over the branch and onto the rock below, I thought I was good, but then I lost footing (damn cleats).

Near the bottom-right corner of the pic I hit the grass with my arm and rolled onto my shoulder and back and FINALLY I was on stable ground; and on my feet.

I did that entire sequence in about two seconds, and not a scratch on me, woohoo! :D

That pic is great. Now you've got the side to side clipless dismount down, next is "clipless dismount while going over the bars" , before graduating to "clipless dismount while falling backwards doing wheelies in the parking lot".

I'm not such a good rider anymore, but I'm still pretty good at bailing.

As I'm playing the part of the Russian judge I feel compelled to mark you down for too much dust and haphazard artwork.

This is why I do not plan to get clipless pedals anytime in the near future.

nah, don't be scared off. Riding clipless is one of those little rites of passage in cycling that you should just get over. Sure there is a learning curve, but it's pretty fast, and depending on your riding style its a great improvement in control (this thread not withstanding).
Personally, I switched to flats though after about 10 years.

There is no feeling like unclipping, jumping over the handlebars and landing on your feet as the bike endos.

and running like hell before the saddle hatchets the back of your head:D
