serial number novara aspen

well if anyone remembers my other posts i had a novara aspen 17" and thought it was too big as i'm 5"8...i went into the campus bike shop today and showed them the bike and they said that i shouldnt get a 15" because it would be too small....so i guess im sticking with this one.

im trying to register the bike with the campus police but i cant find the serial number....i found a bunch of letters and numbers on the bottom of the bike where the two pedals join but it is 4 lines of numbers/letters...2 lines are facing the opposite direction of the other two lines....19 letters/numbers total and 2 dashes....is this the serial number? if so...what order do the numbers go in? there's 2 sets of 2 lines of numbers....

also how do i know the number of speeds of my bike? the left shifter has 3 different settings and the right shifter has 8 different settings...does this mean 24 speed bike?

also the registration asks for "trims/misc equiptment"....does this mean i should list my wheels, seat, and all that junk too?

Serial numbers are found on the bottom bracket shell, which is underneath the bike. I think it's what you described as being between the pedals. Copy down that number and give it to them.

Yes, you have a 24-speed if you have 3 chainrings in the front and 8 gears on your rear cassette.

The list of stuff probably refers to customized stuff.

thx for the response! what im confused about though is that there are two sets of letters/numbers....both in same font/size but on different sides of the bottom bracket. so if you are reading the first set of numbers, to read the second set you have to turn the bike around (or read up side down)....how would i know what order the numbers go in/which set of numbers goes first in the serial number?

The campus police are just looking for a way to identify your bike if it were ever stolen/recovered so just approximate what you see and don't sweat it too much.

On an aspen, the serial number is the sequence that is listed on the non-drive side of the BB shell, if you turn the bike upside down and read the numbers/letters that are right side up from the non-drive side, thats what you are looking for (i work in an REI shop). From what you posted, I'm fairly sure that the "W6Y..." deal is your serial number, it looks like one.
