My vote:
BS start a thread and let it get bumped as people post and show interest. If indeed there is quite a bit of response then sure, consider a sticky. But I think the mods do a nice job of not stickying everything that is a species of the mtb genus (bad attempt at science talk from a philosopher?).

Not that I would want to send anyone away from here, but there is an entire forum for SS mtb at mtbr.com. I do agree though that the SS/FG forum on BF is almost exclusively road (and primarily FG).

That said I would love to check out people's SS's, especially creative resurrections of old bikes through conversions (oops, hope that isn't too religious).

Interesting this just came up. As I just finished a new build, I'm thinking of putting my rigid fork on my Stumpjumper and making it a SS. I looked at the SS forum and didn't really find what I was looking for.

The few SS MTB's on the FG SS thread are surleys and while I love looking at a 1x1 surley... I wouldn't mind seeing what others have done for ideas (since I lack orginal ones) and i'm too lazy to sift through 700+ pages of flatbar road bikes.

Brodie Unibomber. Fully rigid aluminum with track ends. Classic XC race geometry, handles awesome in singletrack. Currently set up with:
Deore XT front hub laced to some rim I found in the basement, Conti Vertical Pro 2.3"
On-One rear SS hub with cheap Taiwanese 20T freewheel laced to DT Swiss rim with 14/15/14 spokes and alloy nipples, WTB Velociraptor 2.1"
Truvativ Stylo Team GXP cranks with 22T and 42T rings removed, leaving the 32T ring in place. Perfect chainline.
Shimano M540 pedals
Kalloy 410mm seatpost with some seat off a RM Slayer
Avid Ultimate Ti rear v-brake
SRAM 7.0 front v-brake
Cane Creek Direct Curve levers
Titec 135mm stem and handlebar, unknown grips

I started out with 1.9" tires front and rear, but they are just too narrow for the type of trails I ride. I also switched from a 32Tx16T [2:1] gearing ratio because of local trail conditions. On my geared bike, a lot of the climbs require a 22Tx20T spin, so going to a 32x20 and standing works fine [read: my patellas are still intact]. I was thinking about putting on front suspension, but I'll see if the 2.3" tire can take the edge off.

While I did build it up as a street rig, I actually got out of mountain biking more or less and got into BMX. It started low as a street bike and then remained low as I used it for DH.

What is a good chain tensioner for the price and will itthey work with the chain I currently have on the seven speed Stumpjumper I have?

You can use your existing derailleur and chain if you want. It's really easy to set your derailleur up exactly in line with your cog by using a short piece of shift cable. Converting to SS is mostly about taking stuff off your bike, and is pretty cheap to do.

The Brodie is definitely not a great street bike, at least the way I have it set up. There's a 4" drop from saddle to bars, and geometry is great for tight singletrack. It's a real pig on pavement, but okay in snow.

It's treated me well. A friend of mine just got a used one online - it's exactly the same as mine! We'll be dorky-looking twins until we start the bling war. I bet he puts on a Chris King headset, which I'll counter with a carbon bar. Then he'll add Ti pedals, which means a Ti seat for me. I hope it doesn't come down to wheels - I don't want to pay for Industry 9 SS!
