what type of bike?
ive been cycling for about 1 year and a half and would like to pick up a mountain bike. I have friends who have mountain bikes and they want to start hitting some trails. There are so many different types of mountain bikes i was wondering which type of bike you use for different riding situations.

mostly any trail that doesn't have big jumps or drops can be called "cross-country". Trails with huge roots and logs and rocks and some jumps and drops and nasty gnarly climbs and descents can be called "aggro" or "aggressive" cross-country. Gnarlier than that and you're getting into All Mountain or Freeride.
Generally if you don't know what kind of bike you need, you probably need a cross-country hardtail. (trek 4300, specialized hardrock, specialized rockhopper, etc..) maybe a full suspension if you can afford it. but most beginners do better by starting on a hardtail.
if you need a freeride, downhill, dirt jump, or other kind of bike, usually you will already know it.

Wow, there are sooo many of these dam threads per day. People don't even need to use the friggin' search function, just scroll down the page.
There aren't that many types of mountain bikes..And without knowing what the heck kind of trail you are planning to ride, there is no real information we can give you. I'd say go to the bike shop ready to drop 450-550 on a bike, then start riding trails and reading bike mags. That way, you figure out what type of riding you like best, and what kind of bikes go with that riding. Then one day voila, you are ready for the next bike purchase.

Sid gets everyone on the team involved, hence all the assists. That is perhaps his strongest asset on the team.
If Lecavelier and St. Louis play on both power plays and penalty kills than that means lots more minutes, then they should have more points than Sid.
Gotta go, the game is about to start. GO PENS!!!

By the way now it's 2-0 Sens not even 7 mins in. Only two shots from the Pens in 9:30 and only one scoring chance?

Yeah, the Sens are really kicking our arshes right now. Thank god Fleury is playing pretty well.
I hear ya about the Pens staying put, especially with this good young team we have now. Of course I'm a huge Steeler fan. Cleveland used to be our biggest rival, but when they left for Baltimore, it really sucked. As much as I hated Cleveland, it was two games a year you definately circled on the schedule every year. Never been the same with the expansion team that moved into Cleveland.
Anyway, I'm really hoping we don't have to play the lightening in the playoffs(first we need to get past the Sens of course), because for whatever reason, they are just one of those teams the Pens can't seem to beat. I believe they beat them for the first time this year..
