front wheel flew off my car tonight.....

So I completed my 2nd race (XC) in extremely muddy conditions. I borrow a front wheel fork for my roof rack so that I don't muddy up the inside of my car. Well, long story short the damn wheel flew off on the freeway and hit another car's front bumper. Damage was minimal, but I couldn't find the wheel. It was dark and I was muddy and cold.

Anyway, the wheel wasn't anything special and I doubt I will find it tomorrow. I was looking for a reason to replace them anyway. SO, my budget would be from the 300-500 range and I need something for XC riding. I do some small drops and jumps but nothing crazy. Oh and I run with disk brakes.

Any suggestions on a nice and relatively light wheelset? I searched and came up with mostly non-XC wheel threads.

Thanks!

How big are the jumps / drops? How much do you weigh?

We lost one last year on the interstate. Those suckers bounce 20 feet after they hit....wooooohooooo!!! I found the missing wheel after a scary search of the median.

I would say 3 foot drops max. Most of the jumps I hit are pretty small and I never land on flat ground. I weigh 185. I guess I would consider my riding style 'aggresive' XC. And I ride a hardtail.

Anybody have an opinion on these? I would prefer to stay closer to the 300 side of my budget.

I don't know yet but most likely last among the finishers in my class. I crashed twice and one time pretty hard. Also had chain problems from the get go. Finishing the race was good enough for me.

Sometimes that is a victory within it's self. Congratulations!

https://www.pricepoint.com/detail/160...c-Wheelset.htm

or

https://www.pricepoint.com/detail/160...c-Wheelset.htm

Both are pretty light. The second is a bit sturdier. Both are right around $300 + shipping.

I'm not associated in any way with pricepoint, they just do good stuff for cheap a lot of the time.
