first race of my life~ it was somewhat fun/somewhat okay.
hated the rain, hated the sand... hated that i had no idea what the course was like... hated that i had to race against 17/18 yr olds whn i'm only 16. hated that we got lost as SOON as we left the track. we're all "wtf, where do we go? d0h.." oh yea, sorry for any of those who got caught behind me... i tried to move off to the side as often as possible when there were like pro racers commin by.. but, i guess i did okay, first race ever, not knowing anything.. broke 3 hours, didn't finish last or DNF... 2:35? i think.. read more here... with pics!~ http://chopstixboy.wordpress.com/ |

Congratulations alumrock12. I really wanted to go but I couldn't find anyone else around here that wanted to make the trip this early in the season. Hopefully I can make it there next year.

My question is does one deserve to race pro if they don't know what a DNF stands for?
Edit: Way to go Rennie for winning the DH, that gave me my lbs pool win overall. And for you Alum for racing in that kind of weather. |
I went. I had a gas, but I didn't race.
Maybe that's why I had so much fun. The event has grown considerably since I did the announcing at the first one. I went on Friday to hang out with the VRC (Vintage, Retro, Classic) gang who meet every year to show off their old bikes. Weather was perfect, and I was home by the time it started raining Saturday morning. Rather than post a lot of pics, I'll just post the link to the Sea Otter VRC thread on mtbr.com. Just for amusement purposes, here is a photo of the huck ramp. It was 10 meters high, with three piles of dirt for landing ramps. The end of the launch ramp was easily fifteen vertical feet above the landing. http://ourworld.cs.com/FTFSales/Huck_ramp.jpg In front of the huck ramp you can see the wooden trials ramps, some 10-12 feet above the ground. It would hurt a lot to fall off. |
