Your way was good too. There's a reason that car rotors glow red and it does take a particular temp to get that effect.

Probably because it was released a few years after you penned the above diatribe. It's amazing how things can change over time.

You're purportedly a mechanic, right? How do you manage to contaminate your rotors so frequently that you require that much alcohol to clean them? Furthermore, you could probably clean ten rotors with one 12oz can of Clean Streak. Not being frugal would be me advising someone to just get a new rotor.

It's good for cleaning your bong also, or so I've heard.

Using Clean Streak for rotors is actually a secondary use. It's primarily designed to clean bicycle drivetrains and greasy fasteners. This is a task it also performs very well. Try pouring your precious denizzied alcohol over your cassette and chain and let me know how that works out for you.

Enjoy your fondue.

Has anyone tried Oxy Clean? I'm thinking that it would work great.

I don't contaminate my rotors that often, however Denatured Alcohol is a multitasker and therefore can be used in other applications. I've had the same can of DA for the last 2 years and even with cleaning rotors and other household applications its still half full

Ten is that all? By your usage I could clean 26.6666 rotors and that's not compensating for the propellant in your product

Imagine not letting it dry after cleaning. Richard Pryor anyone?

Actually it works quite well to remove Boesheild. I've used it on occasion to clean up overspray, and to get a deep down clean when I disassembled my road cassette.

Regardless, if someone is going to be prudent, they should ignore Raiyn's generally neurotic advice.

Once again another attempt to put someone else down(Yawn). "Living it" means I work on automotive brakes every day, so I get to see the what brakes can withstand and what they cannot (Duh), mr fagerlin, mr danneskold, mr john, mr Hitler or what ever new alias you are these days.....

Gasto's bong comment is what gave me the thought.

But honestly, someone needs to try out my oxy clean method...it seems pretty solid.

You're supposedly "living it" yet you've only gotten your brakes to 511 degrees Fahrenheit? What that tells me is that you've never pushed the car hard enough to understand what is hype and what is reality, despite your protestations to the contrary.

p.s. It's a bit early to be throwing in the towel with Godwin's Law, isn't it Mr. Tupperware pilot?

Well, while he may be wrong or right about rotor temps, I'll argue he has a little more than zero experience given what he has said about himself.

I don't disagree with you about the advice people give based on little experience or being against hypes. In fact, it is nice to have someone who can call that advice into question. It is just that in most cases the "e tone" which you use makes you come across as a prick. I probably come across as prick too, so I guess I really shouldn't be pointing a finger.

The part after "in this case" refers to his posts in this thread. The part before refers to some mountain biking "advice" that he is want to dispense, based upon practically zero experience (self-described BTW).
Oops, I thought the in this case was referring to someone else in the thread.

Couldn't tell from your response to Gastro whether you liked the stuff or not. It is the only lube I use anymore. I tried White Lightening, Prolink, and some Pedros stuff but it all seemed to gunk up my chain. Triflow seems legit, but I keep coming back to Boeshield.

I've used it for the last couple of years. Great around the house too.
