bicycle tape

i need that black protectant tape for my frame (where my frame meets the back wheel). the chain clings and bounces off this area of the frame whenever i hit a jump or my bike is bouncing. the tape is also good for protecting the frame from scratch, even though im way past that. WHAT KIND OF TAPE IS THIS and where to buy!!!??? thanks.

Why spend money you don't have to?

Two examples of chainstay guards.
Top: Section of used Specialized Armadillo Road tire with beads removed and attached with zip ties. Used on my commuter bike. Cost $0 I reused some zip ties that had been used by the manufacturer to pack new bikes that I had assembled at the shop and the tire was junked.
Bottom: Section of clear water supply hose slit down one side and secured with zip ties. Used on my trail bike. Cost ~ $1.50 for the hose zip ties were obtained in same manner as above.

These have an ability to last longer than electrical tape or any Lizard Skin

Gaffer's tape, hockey stick tape fill the bill. Old Schwinn handlebar tape came in some nifty colors if you can find some NOS in your LBS' bargain bin.

Lizard Skin ... I'm too lazy to think up what to zip tie to my chainstay so I just paid the 7 bucks or whatever it was a few years back.

And if you have big chain stays, it's important to get the right size.
