Down there at the pawn shop

My bike has been recovered. A friend of mine spotted it in a local pawn shop and gave me a call early this morning. I went down to check it out, identified the bicycle as my own, showed the owners my police report, and called a frendly law officer to come produce a warrant for my bicycle. I should have it back in my possession by thrity days at the latest. The pawn shop is having trouble locating the paper for the original trade in from guy who stole it from me so i don't know if i'll be able to press charges against him or anything. Upon inspecting my bike i noticed a few new scratches and that the theif had bent my rear derailleur. Not too big a deal i guess. The theif collected $150 bucks upon trade in and the pawn shop was selling it for $400. I still don't really know how i feel about the whole situation. I wish i was riding my bike today, but at least i'll have it back in a month or so.

Which means the pawn shop owner is in possesion of stolen property, which means he must be the thief.

That's some good luck, and good to hear, too! I hope I find mine like that if it ever gets stolen (knocking on 7 kinds of wood).

And nice song reference in the thread title.

invest in a ultra high end powerful elite super destructive robot pocket size version of a robot to protect your bike when you go inside to drop off your groceries. :] that way this'll never happen again... i've got one. he looks real, but inside... hes a robot. i call him raul. say hi to raul.

Congrats Ben! Of course now that removes your excuse to get a new bike ; but getting YOURS back is, I'm sure, comforting indeed.

Makes me curious why, in a college town especially, a pawn shop would accept any bike without checking against the current stolen list. That's just really sketch.

I'm going to have to raise the b.s. flag on this on. As soon as you produced the police report he went in back to find the paperwork, tossed it in the shredder, walked out and said, "Hrmm...can't find it"

On another post, someone mentioned putting your personal information on a rolled up card inside the stem or the handlebars, that way if the S/N is ground off and you find the bike later, pull out the card and voila.

those are genius ideas! wow, i'm just really impressed. those are great ideas. I've decided once i get the bike back in my possession, it is gonna get a few upgrades including a new derailleur, bar ends, and a chris king headset. When i put the bar ends on, i'll slip a contact sheet into my bars. I'll make sure to use rice paper to keep the weight down. Also, the pawn shop has been very helpful and cool. They located the info of the person who pawned the bike and faxed it to the friendly law enforcemnet officers as soon as they found it. In addition they gave the info to me too! just in case i wanted to preform a beat down or throw some eggs at the doods house or anything. Anyways, three weeks and i'll have it back in my possession!
