FS Setup Problem?

I bought a new full suspension mountain bike - Specialized Epic. I'm having problems with the handling of the front end.

When I'm riding uphill I have a hard time keeping the front wheel in a straight line. It feels very squirrelly. I'm constantly weaving back and forth. It's like the slightest touch on the handlebars points me in the wrong direction. Which of course I try to compensate for but of course I end up over compensating.

Any ideas?

- The suspension is kind of soft. I've been riding a full suspension Trek Y-33 for 12years and it didn't have nearly as much travel so I'm not used to the front end being 'soft'. Even turning is a challenge now for me lol.

- The handlebars are comfortable, but could they be to 'long' in the sense of I have to much leverage making the front end extra sensitive?

- Perhaps slide seat forward so I can get more weight over the front wheel and hope it gives me more control?

- Tire pressure was good. Headset is not loose. The amount of air in front fork (FOX) is to manufacturers specs. If I set the rebound adjustment from one extreme to another I could either feel it topping out (thumping was annoying), or extra plush (turning was difficult).

Thanks in advance!

PS> Other than the font end control issues, this bike is amazing. The rear suspension on the epic for cross country is purrrrfect.

lots of issues here...I'd recommend taking the bike back to the lbs and have their tech walk you through some of the featues of what you bought. Have them explain how to set your sag (front and rear) and how to coordinatate the rebound with the shock and fork.

Then practice a bit...the reason you're losing control of the fork is a weight distribution, gearing, and posture issue...try sitting upright and gearing down...don't be afraid to use your granny

happy trails
