i already tried the search function

and came up with far too many responses to an easy question.

I reciently tore down the rear end on my 1996 schwinn moab, cleaned it up, repacked the bearings, and put it all back together. the only issue i am having now is when i have the wheel on the frame the axel spins along with the hub. in addition to that the entire assembly is really "tight" and has a hard time spinning. also i cant back pedal.

anyone have any ideas? im aware i tightened the bolts near the bearings a little tight but no where near the torque they were origionally at. so again, any ideas?

So you repacked your hubs?

You most likely tightened the cones too much. The cones should only be tight enough so that the is no lateral play in your hub, anything more is too much. After the cones are loosely holding everything together you take a cone wrench to hold the cone while you tighten the lock nut.
