i've found that i ride significantly faster if i have my music on.
and if i ride to music from a (good) biking movie, it usually pumps me up more.
but i wear semi-closed in-ear headphones (i'm used to them, and they stay in better), and i have both of them on, so i have to be really careful about pedestrians, cars and the like.

if i'm riding alone and i'm on a relaxed trail, im puttin on some pink floyd, led zeppelin or phish,
in general, no music distracts me even while flying downhill with my eyes wide open. my camelbak has an ipod pouch on the top of it, which is a nice feature, and headphones are similar to the ****ty ipod ones but loop around the back of my ears so they never fall out. got them @ sears for 10$
