  1. Are your hubs disc brake compatible. (ie do they have the six-bolt interface or the new Shimano Centerlock) ?
  2. If not do you intend on buying a wheelset that is disc compatible?
  3. Are your frame and fork compatible with disc brakes? Rincon's have been around for a long time, not all have the right mounts
  4. Do you intend on going Mechanical or Hydraulic? Easiest would be to go Mechanical (read Avid bb7's) as that way you can use your original V-brake levers.
  5. Do you have enough mechanical aptitude to install the brakes you want?
  6. Is your bike worth the investment or would you be better served purchasing a new bike that already comes with Disc Brakes?
That should get you started.

One more thing brakes stop you. Breaks are what you get when you don't use your brakes correctly
