A little blow up at a nearby skatepark.

lol.. Chicago's finest!..

Was a bit of good cop/bad cop there, eh?.. heh..

I work at a PD out near Chicago and unfortunetly when we receive a complaint from a resident or citizen we have to act upon it and deal with this sort of crap.. Trust me, cops usually dont want to get involved.. They are thinking the same as you.. "Why do we have to deal with this bs when we have more important things to do??!?!"...

I have seen both sides, and neither are pretty.. heh..

So, people knowingly breaking the rules complaining about it when they called on it???
Don't see their point. No helmets, breaking the existing rules, whining about how someone else needs to do something for them?
Just like the cop who signed the petition said, go through the proper process and get a place to ride. As someone who went through the 80's trying like hell to get anywhere to skate because there was no parks because of all the liability BS, I don't have any sympathy for these guys. All these parks exist now because of a lot of years of work from people who didn't have a place to do their thing. Go through the right steps and quit complaining and put yourself in a much better light to those who can help you rather than being a bunch of negative, whiny bad examples.

im sure when u go to a public skate park, get kicked out cause your on a bike, then a week later get a ticket for grinding a hand rail or "trespassing" on some set of stairs then you will see it differently. most of them are young, and policy makers only care about the constituents. 16 year olds are not constituents.

If it was my handrail or my property you were "trespassing" on. I would see it very differently. You can sit around and whine or you can get active and work to make changes happen.

Exactly. There was plenty of those "kids" who looked old enough to be more active in properly getting a place to ride. He missed my point totally. It's not about going out and complaining, it about going out and doing. Politicians care about more than the people who can vote but when you try to get your point across by doing things ilegally, you're not getting anywhere.
Quit feeling sorry for yourselves and smarten up.

For those that think people haven't been doing anything, take a look at this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nw9Be2mIA0E

People have been doing things for years, writing petitions, going to meetings and trying to win the fight. Hell, look up the history of the Winona skatepark.

It's true.

And stupid. Skateparks should be for all types of wheels. And pegs, pedals and bars do just as much damage as skateboard trucks.

I think one of the best setups I've seen is in Bellingham, WA. The city gave bikes their own DJ area right next to the skate bowl so there's no need for conflicts:

The bikers in my area defiantly have their plates full with work. Be for this incident people where working on getting permission to legally build some dirt jumps and now it seems as though all the attention has been turned to the skate parks. The bikers are not just standing around and picking their asses. As seen in the video there are a bunch of petitions going around. Hopefully by summer we will see some real progress.

Local bikers have also been working hard on the Plain Field bike park. It sound like it is common together well. Here's a link to a bunch of info on that if anyone is interested.

im not a kid first of all, but i was a kid with the same idea.

wtf are u supposed to do at age 13 with no car or no money to go and get 500 or probably 2-4 times the amount of people to BUY the land, and then have it created.

I know where i live, in cincinnati, any real estate within probably the ~50 miles around the center, good luck finding even a basketball court sized lot in a safe part of the city for under 200,000. kids talking about a quarter of a million dollar project in a place like that doesnt make any sense. Hell i wrote probably 25 letters to my senator. with him once about it. I think he would have listen to me more after i invited him to my eagle scout ceremony.

When you are into the skateparks and stuff, you are not old enough to understand the government or how the hell you have to go about the system to get the useless government to do anything. Too much red tape and waste. Damn John Locke.
