Suggest quiet screw-on Cassette/Freewheel
Hi, Does anyone knows any screw-on cassettes/freewheel without ratchet or just quiet?
Please advice! Thanks... |
Why quiet? You do know that a cassette and a freewheel are two different things, right?
|
I love that ratcheting sound.
If you want it quiet, STOP COASTING AND PEDAL!! |

i have a cheap shimano freewheel that is fairly quiet i don't remember it's model, perhaps HB-570?. you can still hear it, but instead of "TTTTTTT!!!" when coasting, it's more like "ttttttt...." if that makes sense. Sometimes I can't hear it at all. I think loud ratcheting sounds are good for letting people know where you are.
pro's of loud freewheel: families on baby stroller trails can get out of the way or at least be aware of you. , other cyclists can hear you without the use of a bell or anything, can help you judge your speed if you don't have/want a speedometer cons of loud freewheel: mountain lions can hear you better too... :p maybe to quiet it down you can pack it with thicker grease? |
Take out the pawls and spray 'em with Teflon coating? :D
