Alright, which slicks should I buy?
Hey all,
I have a Santa Cruz Blur that I need to toss some slicks on. I can't get out to the real trails enough and I am tired of using my winter bike instead of the Blur.
The majority of my riding seems to have been reduced to local roads. I do live in Upstate NY so these roads are not exactly pristine but they are of course a lot smoother than trails. I also hit the Erie Canal when I can.
Please, before you say: "go buy a road/cross bike" it really comes down to money. Another bike isn't in the budget right now due to my awesome 6 month old baby boy. He is also the reason I can't seem to get out to the trails. Most of my riding is at 6 AM before work. He is totally worth it though, especially when he is old enough to tow around in the Burly trailer I talked his mother (my lovely wife in the event she checks out this forum) into letting me buy.
So, a long winded way to ask which slicks to buy for the Blur. Thanks for your time and consideration.
Oh, and when I say "slick" that is what I think I'm looking for. I believe that is the proper term for a smooth tire. However, if I am mistaken please correct me and suggest a product with a different name and same principle.

I've tried lots of em. If you want to go narrow, go with the Ritchey Tom Slick. I have a pair and like them but personally i hardly ever mount them anymore. I prefer a wider slick, because it gives a nicer ride and is almost as fast.
My favorite tire at the moment is the Continental Town and Country in the 2.1 width. I also like the IRC Mythos XC slick. I have them on one bike and they are a little lighter but a tiny bit more aggressive on the tread.

I've got them on my Catamount MFS. I only have about 140 miles on the current pair, but I had a pair years ago that I easily put 1000 miles on without ever getting a flat.

Well, I didn't buy any slicks, at least not yet. But I took the tires I had on the bike I use on my trainer and tossed them on the Blur. It was actually a pretty good ride. Definitely seemed to roll better on pavement. They are the Cheng Shin Tire 38-559 26x1.40. I previously had some 26 x 2.10 Kenda knobbies. Here is a pic of the Chengs on my trainer bike, I haven't taken a pic of the Blur with them but I think it actually looks kinda cool.
I read a few other posts and ended up ordering some Crossroads. I'll let everyone know how those work out when I get them.
Thanks!

I tried a pair of Specialized "Fat Boy" 26x1.25 tyres on my MTB, but found the ride a bit harsh when I ran them at 100 psi. I switched to a pair of Hutchinson Basic Sand'iago 26x2.00, which run at 85 psi are not only very comfortable but also very quiet. I've also tried a pair of IRC Metro Duros, but they have a slight tread and so are marginally noisier than the Hutchinsons.

Specialized Nimbus.
Excellent wearing tires but sort of dead. I used the EX on the front & an armadillo on the rear. nearly bullet proof. i got somewhere around 4,000 to 4,300 miles out of the rear.
