Money wise, the 6700 is fine. Avid juicy hyrdo brakes over Shimano's LX, I have the same Tora fork and think it is excellent, the SRAM x7 shifters/x9 rear derailer on the 6700 in my opinion is more efficient than the 8000's Shimano LX/XT combo. I also have the 6700's race crankset on my bike and it works great. The 8000 has slighty better wheels though, but I like the 6700.

Going with the 8000 gets you into the ZR9000 frameset with lower end components and buying the 6700 is like buying the 6500 with upgraded components...I bought the 6500 because I had my own parts so it wasnt worth going up to the 6700 but in your case it may pay to go the other way.
good luck in any case
either one is a nice bike.

Oh and the Reba is nice on the 8000

The 8000 is quite a bit of an upgrade over the 6700. I think if i was in the market for an Al. Trek, i would save me money & go either with the 8000 or 8500.
