On One bikes...."a revolutionary company?" meh

I don't get it. So many people are going "GAGA" over the On One 456 Evo b/c of its new "EVOlutionary" geometry. According to On One, riders have changed and riding has changed.

You people wonder why I like my 2005 Jamis Komodo so much? Basically, the only geo difference is the ETT is longer which is actually better b/c I can run a shorter stem instead of having a freakin' HAWG LEG holding on to my wide bars. My Komodo is 7 years old and isn't showing any sign of letting up. It rails corners and is definitely the most comfortable bike I've ever had.

The numbers don't lie:

My 2005 Komodo:
HA 150mm fork: 67.5
ETT: 625
CS Length: 16.7
Seat Angle: 71.5

On One 456 Evo:
HA 150mm fork: 67.3
ETT: 603
CS Length: 16.8
Seat Angle: 71.2

And I'll bet you my Freeride-Hardtail-tough Komodo frame is lighter than the steel 456 Evo. On One has openly admitted that the 456 is a stiff frame, so the "MYTH" that the steel is going to be compliant and comfy is out the window on this one.

Revolutionary? Maybe 7 years ago, LOL!

Haha, 'revolutionary.' The riding and riders changed long before On One got caught wind of it. One of Transition's first products, their Vagrant hardtail, came out in '05 or '06. It was designed around a 160mm fork with: HA of 67°; STA of 70°; large frame ETT of 617;CS length of 16½; large frame reach and stack (the important numbers) of 403.2/585.8 - - very similar numbers to ed's Komodo. It's the bike that almost made me want to own a hardtail, None of that twitchy, nose-over-the bars stuff - - a hardtail that begged to be ridden like I like to ride bikes.

Alas, they discontinued it before I could think about adding one to the arsenal; but the concept is still my gold standard.

I love my Inbred.... but it's not breaking any new ground by any means, it's just a nice solid bike that's fun to ride.

Wellllllll...you if you lived where I do you would be spitting moonshine. You know how we do it in the 828. I was starting to think that there's no one on here that can get this kinda stuff.

Ur doing it all wrong, ur spposed to spit what you chew, not drink! Don't ever spit shine!

BTW, kinda on topic. I found my old 94 Saddle that came with my Nitro. It is .1 ounce lighter than my new racy skinny butt saddle on my Obrea! Its a foam saddle, but stinking lighter. The problem with bike companies is they hire writers from colleges and not riders from the hills.

Not banging On One's face into the curb by any means. The Summer Season is a slacker Inbred. It's on sale right now for $149 (BTW)...anyhoo...that freakin' thing would be the PIMP!

Sometimes, it's more fun to have a quick and nimble hardtail that still has both descended testicles...or descends with big...whatever.

Food for thought: snag a Summer Season and build it up as a singlespeed or just a little minimal 3speed with a 32x12,16,20. Build it with a 4" travel fork like a 4xWC or 831. Now you got a light little trail bike that has a short enough travel fork that won't suck up all your stand and honk energy...but it still has a 66.5' head angle.

Fun!

(could do the same thing with an '08 RM Flow)

Their geo may not be anything new, but it's probably the cheapest good frame you can get. I'd ride one.

Probably. As I said...it's not a bad bike. On the contrary...it's probably pretty bangin' given the fact that I like the Geo so much on mine. It's just not evolutionary. Meh, whatevah.

I still think a short travel Summer Season would be hawt!
