It's actually my brother's bike, not mine.

I just discovered that he has since switched out from the drops to Mary bars. I think he had it set up with drops for a specific race. It worked well for him. He also rides road bikes a lot, so I think he's used to switching between straight or riser bars and drop bars. I'm also fairly certain that he sets up all his bikes to have similar reach/fit dimensions, if not exactly the same.

Maybe he's an industry product developer trying to stealthily gauge trends and scoop a patent coup on "The Next Big Thing."

I do it to all my MTBs and it's awesome. Just get as wide a bar as you can. Moustache handlebars are also a blast. I use Travel Agents and they work great.

Any particular brand you're fond of? 25.4, 26.0 or OS?

Thanks, I was checking those out. They've got a few different widths if I remember correctly.

Chances are your MTB stem will be 25.4.

The ones I have now are. I wasn't sure if anybody was(or could) using(use) road stems.

Felt makes some good looking bikes.

It's a Felt F3C but it started as a frame and I collected all the bits to make up the build. I think the only thing that matches to the "official" F3C is the frame.

I had a Felt F fifty or sixty something, with drop bars. But it was too harsh a ride in Australia. I also had the Sector 24, for racing BMX. Nice bikes, good value. Like a Giant, but with more flat black.

I remember a guy years ago that was in my ride group that did that. He always had weird combos of parts on his bikes. I rode it once and it seemed really awkward. You sat too low and you didn't have quite the range of motion you do with a MTB bar which made for scary handling on tight stuff. No thanks.

So. You'll probably want a shorter/higher rise stem, whatever you end up using. You'll also probably want to rotate the bars back/up a bit more than for road use, and maybe have the brake levers a bit higher on the bars. At least that is what I've found works for me. My crosser that sees offroad use has a 46cm wide Salsa cross bar; very comfy, and the width is great for leverage.

Possibly. If we knew what sort of riding, on what sort of trails you plan the bike for, it just might help people give you better feedback about it. But since you're being an asshat about the responses, I'm not sure why I'm bothering. Other than the easy entertainment on a slow night at work for me factor.
