Blew up 2 tires this week. wtf

I was trail ridin, got about 2 and a half feet of air off of this rock on a downhill section and landed it fine i thought, i go about 10 more feet and my tire is completely flat. I think popped tube, no big deal. i took the bike in for the tune up since it was shifting crappy and they said the tire had 2 holes in it where i landed.

i got a panaracer trail blaster 2.1 tire on the back, today i went riding again, got some nice air off another rock and a little farther down, flat tire. Filled the tube up when i got home, and the damn tire was cut again on a different part of the rim.

i got a kona cindercone, what should i do? what is a heavy duty tire that will take crap like that.

also the guy that worked at the bike shop told my mom when she went to pay for it (poor ass college student) that i "beat the crap out of it"

how is riding not beating it?

Run more air pressure or try and be more smooth.

What PSI do you run at?.. could be pinch flats. I get them often as well, since I'm a lardass.

Some riders have a smooth, "light" riding style and others have all the finesse of a bag of rocks in a clothes dryer. Your style is likely more like the latter.

Try: 1 - Running a little higher PSI, 2 - smoother landing (this probably isn't the problem with your bmx experience), 3 - check into a heavier-duty tube (it's amazing how thin some mtb tubes are combared to others). My guess is #1 and #3.

Dude, you definitely keep getting pinch flats when you land on your jumps.
As noted, try more psi, or work on having smoother landings.

But did it teach you how to jump/land on a rough/rocky trail? If you are destroying tires I say not.

Two holes...sounds like every pinch flat I have ever had. Air 'em up a little.

What PSI are you running at? Is there anything sharp stuck in your tire casing? Are you landing your jumps properly? Are any of the spoke's threads coming through the end of the spoke nipple into the tube?

It sounds like you are getting pinch flats which means your running way too low air pressure or are landing with all your weight on the back wheel. If I go jumping I run Kenda Nevegal 2.35's at 50psi with just normal tubes and never had a problem.

It would help. But if you're doing all that jumping, perhaps you consider both a LARGER tire AND a heavy duty tube.

blew up 2 more on the trail today.

both of them within 300 feet. not pinch flats, more like one leak and the other blew up. the last 2 where pinch flats. i got a new tube in the front and about 300 feet down the hill i got another one.

what are some bigger heavy duty tubes? can some1 link me to a site with them?

Pinch Flats happen, nothing much you can do short of going tubeless, and even then there is a slight chance of pinch flatting.

Are you running rim strips inside the wheels? Make sure they're there.

Since mommy pays your bills, you should take it a little easier and quit thrashing your bike so much.

Pays my bills? hardly, she bought me a tube and tire. I live in cincinnati, paying for my rent and school. Speaking of college you could probably benefit from it. Hell you probably would have if you could afford the SAT.

as to the strips, they are there. i think i found out that i was runnin my tires far too low for the terrain. I pumped them up much higher, i should be good now for the rocks. they were gettin the drag racing folds when i would get some air or wheelie from what i was told.
