First mountain biking experience - awesome!

Went mountain biking today with the school (not the whole school only about 11 of us plus teachers) and it was amazing! I can finally call myself a mountain biker lol. Went to Glentress (Scotland) and did some blue and red routes, we weren't allowed to do black routes because they are too dangerous - dammit. Did switchbacks, rock gardens, descents, jumps, log rolls and riding incredibly fast on some smooth blue routes, it was all great fun.

Just thought I would share my first experience of mountain biking with some fellow mountain bikers.

Maybe you could share your own...

Too dangerous? Isn't all the fun in the stark terror you feel right before you catapult over the bars?

Sounds like you had a lot of fun.

Sounds like you had a great time.

Well my first mountain bike experience went like this.

Bought a Trek 9000 (1992 super crappy Full Suspension Mountain Bike) from a local wino who used it to ride to the liquor store, I have no idea where he got it? Paid 300 dollars.

Took it out to some sweet trails with some guys including the president of the local mountain bike club, for some reason they laughed when they saw the bike.

To access the first trail you had to cross a ditch, while crossing the ditch I endoed. For some reason they all laughed at me.

The trail had dip about 300 yards in, I endoed again. This time they laughed, but then grumbled.

We put some air in the front Rock Shox fork which was nearly flat after that I didn't endo.

I can't remember anything else.

My first mountain bike ride was ages ago.

I just remember being taught the basics by a geezer I used to work with. He was good, but I out climbed him.

I then remember riding side by side with him on a trail that was about to become single track. The bastard threw me into the shrubs.

I get to ride a new bike for the first time in the next week or so. That kinda counts I guess.

Today wasn't my first ever, but my first in well over 10 years. It was tough, especially trying to keep up with my three friends who are in much better shape than myself. I'm a clyde, and it is going to take some time to get to the point where I can zip up the hills with them, but despite the pain and difficulty, I had a great time. I'm going back again Tuesday.

My new Specialized Hardrock got it's first off-road test and passed wth flying colors. It's going to take a lot of punishment with me as its rider, so we'll see how it holds up.
