Route Websites
 

I've taken a 9 year vacation from riding. Since I'm now towing a bike trailer (3 kids) I have to review my routes before I just take off--no more singletracks with trees. I was looking for a place for people to find and post bike routes online. Currently residing in "mormonville" Utah I found http://www.utahmountainbiking.com/ very helpful.

This website is very well done, but somewhat limiting. My plan is to take the general idea and put it together in a wiki where anyone can post their rides, google earth their routes, and share information. Does anyone else have a site out there where this can be done? I'd rather not spend the time/money putting this together and only find out I'm repeating the same ground someone else has traversed. I saw a few other attempts at a bicycle wikipedia--but none of them went very far.

The website will be http://www.unnecessaryhappiness.com I've got the wiki loaded--but not customized to mountainbiking or cycling in general. So consider it a beta. If you'd like to add a route your welcome--but I can offer NO help pages or support.

Not exactly what you're talking about, but you can save routes including elevation gain and distance here: www.routeslip.com. I've been using it primarily for running, but don't know why it wouldn't work for riding. . .

Thanks for the information on the websites. It's helpful to see what other people have done and are doing. I still think it's wise to move forward building a trails website that uses a wiki. The wiki format seems to be so friendly for allowing others to add information to routes etc. At the moment I've got to work on building the database of trails. There's only one of me--and I could use the help.
