K2 Zed V - a little help guessing this frame size?
Looking at a K2 Zed V converted to single speed on Craigslist - considering it for my wife to give her a shot at single speed without spending much money, but I'm not sure if she'll fit on the bike. From this picture, could you guys give me an educated guess on the frame size, and whether or not it will be too large for a 5'8" person to ride comfortably? The current owner is 6'2" and I would assume that the seat height is where he is comfortable - he thinks it's a 20" frame, but isn't sure and it looked a little smaller than that to me.
The bike is a pretty damned good deal so if she would fit, it would be a perfect start.

Seller is a little hard to get answers out of, you guys are typically quicker :-)
Plus, he's at work right now, not near the bike, and I'm trying to figure out whether it's worth it to drive the 60 miles to look at this thing tonight or not.
If it IS a 20 inch frame - way too big for a 5'8" rider?

I'm 5'10" w/ a 32" inseam. My Schwinn Sierra 700 is marked 20.5", but it measures that from crank center to the top of the seat tube, it's about 18" c-c. I have about 8" of seat post exposed and have plenty of stand over clearance.
It looks like that bike has plenty of seat tube projecting over the top tube. So, it depends on how you measure the frame and your wife's proportions. Is she long legged & short torso or short legged and long torso. What's her inseam?
I'd like to have a hard number on C-C length and stand over height befor I comitted to a 120 mile drive.
IMHO C-C looks to me to be around 17"

I think we're gonna give it a shot...worst case scenario we resell it, probably at a profit. I'm hoping it fits her well enough for her to have fun on, and get a feel for single speed - the fork is a Rock Shox Duke XC, single speed kit was from misfit psycles, specialized BG comfort saddle, everything else in pretty good shape - also comes with a chain tensioner to run different ratios, and all the original derailleurs/cassette/etc... to make it a geared bike again, and it's $125 for everything.

If you assume that the tire diameter is 26 inches and the crank is even with the rear axle then the top of the tire would give you 13 inches of seat tube. Then guesstimate the distance from the top of the tire to the top of the seat tube. I would have gone with 5 inches and guessed the size at 18.
But as pointed out, it does appear to have a pretty long top tube, you could go with a shorter stem to bring the bars in but it may still feel odd to a smaller rider.

Picked it up tonight...friggin sweet bike for the money. I wouldn't have ordered my Monocog if this had been up for sale first...I think my wife will fit on it fine (though it will be a bit big), and it's lighter than the Monocog due to the Aluminum frame. The guy threw in 2 pairs of Shimano clipless pedals, a brand new extra Panaracer Smoke Classic tire - same as what's on the rear (though the ones on the bike are almost new), brand new chain tensioner, all the old gears/shifters etc...
for $125!!!!!
The Duke XC is an older version, not air damped like I had thought it would be. No big deal.

It actually IS a 20" when measured to the top of the seat tube, but the top bar is a little shy of 19". It's big for her, but she is able to stand over it and with the seat all the way down (or almost all the way down) she'll be fine for now. The Ritchey seatpost that's in there is LONG - you can't put it down much more than it already is in those pictures, so that will be going on my Redline and she'll get the stock seatpost from the Redline.
Either way, it's like riding a couch compared to what we're used to (80psi on rigid aluminum hybrids doing 60+ miles at a time), which is pretty fun :-)
