Windsor Bikes
Hopefully helps some people out.
I did alot or research on bikes/parts and I have came up with this list of parts listed on the Windsor 4900 Hardtail and searched prices to match. Some are average prices others are exact, so the total price is damn near right. It sales for $440 and MRSP is $995 alittle high but close. I will let you all know how it really is soon. www.bikesdirect.com Frame-6061 Double Butted Aluminum Trail Tuned Geometry with replaceable rear derailleur hanger and Double Diamond profile Aluminum downtube with reinforced downtube gusset. ? I thought about getting one a while ago, but stayed away from it because i've never heard of the brand. I would have done the same thing If I were you.

A bike's cost in stores is not the sum of it's part's MSRP. Try that on every other bike...

Yeah, BD and thier grossly inflated "retail price"...what a crock-o-crap. You must be a newb rider (no slam) as not to ride the bike before buying. Hope it fits and you have good luck with it. Note: some BD customers have had trouble with bottom brackets NOT being greased/lubed...worth a trip to have your local bike shop wrench check out your bike. And for what you paid, it's no deal at all: Tektro's suck big time and Dart suspension is entry level (and not something you would find on a bike with a real M.S.R.P. bike at $995.). For what you paid, you could be into a Rockhopper, Trek 4500/4900, Iron Horse Expert, and others from a company that backs their products...not a internet company without a phone number.

I agree its not a $900 dollar bike however I truly think its a great deal. If you break down the mentioned bikes the only part that is better in most cases are the Forks and not by much. The Windsor has better components in other areas just like anyother bike combination in a given price range they will all exceed the other in one place or another.
I think everyone is to into the BIG names. Facts don't lie, on paper this Windsor is every bit as good as the others. I say on paper because I have not tried it out yet. If indeed it is not you will all know, but till then give it the credit it deserves. |
Well Turk, BIG names got that way by reputation and offering excellent product design/testing, durable/functionality, and a dealer network to handle any warranty issues. They all sponsor race teams to further their techo/rider knowledge and showcase their bikes. In fact, the three companies I named above come with a lifetime frame warranty and as a result enjoy a solid reputation. All that aside, enjoy your bike. Just don't tell ourself it's a $995. bike...it's a $440. bike.

Yes it is a $440 bike that is in the class of the $600 or more ranged bikes of its competitors. With a 5 year frame warranty and a 1 year parts warranty aswell.
I thank you for your comments etc. |
Turk, I wouldn't buy from bikes direct, but I wouldn't dis your bike either. For $440, if it rides ok and your happy with it, you did good. Did you save $$$, well, as long as nothing happens where you need a bike shop, then you can come out ahead. I have to say, that gloss black paint job looks great. Good luck with it.

Turk, I would not be too excited about a 5 year warranty from internet BD....shipping alone would kill you. Thats much more difficult then heading for a local shop. FWIW, I really suggest riding the exact bike you want to buy... amazing how each brand feels in the approx. same size. Good luck, ride safe and enjoy that new bike whatever it may be.
