Surly 1x1 fork vs Kona Project 2

I'm finally upgrading my rigid singlespeed to front disc brakes. It currently has the non-disc Surly 1x1 fork, so I'll need to replace it with one that has IS disc mounts.

Option 1: the 1x1 fork again, but the disc version:

Option 2: the Kona Project 2 disc:

Have you ridden both? Any opinions on stiffness, handling, etc? I like the Surly alright, but does the Kona track better?

The Surly would be a little more adaptable, since it has disc AND rim brake bosses...but I doubt I'll do much switching between the two.

do you ever run big ass tires up front?

The main difference is clearance. You can run a 3'' tire up front on the 1x1. You max out at about 2.5 on the P2

they are both stiff enough and the p2 is a bit lighter.

I would imagine the 1x1 is more durable but I have never seen anyone snap or bend either fork.

I usually run a 2.4" in front. I doubt I'd ever go as high as 3", but maybe I'll find myself on a glacier one day...

one can never predict the future, especially as it relates to tire width & glacial terrain

The P2 is a much nicer, and far better handling fork. Lighter doesn't hurt, either. Unless you'r doing things you shouldn't be doing on that bike, it'll be quite tough enough. Bonus: you can get the 29" version to gain a bit of front end height if you want. ( i like slack angled bikes)
