Well as i said, a local LBS was having a huge sale, so i went to check it out in the hope of walking away with a discounted crankset for my Rincon. Meandering around with my parents (Who were unusually supportive of taking me to the bike shop. I shouldve picked the next bit by this alone lol) and they turned around to me and said "Geoff. Pick a bike, any bike. You have a grand to spend, plus that 200 of yours so you now have 1200 to spend. Go nuts."

New bike time!
Im set on the Diamondback BSX Comp.
I want to dip my toes in DJ/Light DH sort of work, plus continue with the odd lowly trailride here and there. Should be getting the bike next week. It was a close call between that and a 2007 Giant Alias/Talon. Im still mulling it over. Two different types of riding/bike i know, but i'll live.
But alas i have one question. The cranks are only 2 ring, with a basguard. Is it possible to ditch the bashguard at a later date and whack a big ring on there?
Im realy excited. Ive never owned a brand new bike before, let alone one with Juicy's.

Excellent! Parents supportive of bike stuff is never a bad thing. Ride the hell out of it, take good care of it. Replace parts as needed.

Yep, you can replace the outer bash ring with a larger ring if you like. Ride it as is first, to see if you even need the larger ring. It'll depend on your type of trails and how you ride, obviously.
