New Setup, Opinions?
I bought some upgrades for my bike and wanted some opinions...heres my bike from before:
19'' Custom Leader 516h http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...DSCF0031-1.jpg My new setup will include all of the following 2007 Motobecane Fantom Elite DS Frame (with Rockshox Ario 2.R Rear Shock) - 18 inch 2007 XT RD-M761 Rear Derailleur 2007 XT FD-M761 Front Derailleur 2007 XT M760 Crankset /w Integrated BB 2007 Avid BB5 Front and Rear /w 160mm rotors Cane Creek S-3 Headset Shimano PD-505 SPD pedals /w platforms on one side Shimano EF-ST29 Shifter/Brake Lever Bontrager Select Crowbar handlebar Bontrager Select Grips Bontrager Sport Stem @ 110mm 10 degree rise Rockshox Dart 2 fork with 80mm of travel Alexrims Racer's Edge Wheel WTB Velociraptor Tires Front and Back Leader Seatpost In about a month I'll have the money to get a new front shock which im planning on getting the Rockshox Recon 351 U-Turn (spring, not air). My old set up was just way to XC for me, after riding for a little while I have discovered that I am very much an AM rider at heart. I want the sick jumps and drops, something that can tear up a downhill trail, yet still climb well and hold its own on the XC trail. What do you guys think? |
no opinions anyone?
|
I have opinions. Just not about this topic.
|
Yes junkyard...we know.
|
Opinions huh? Well I think prayer should be aloud but not mandatory in public schools. Does that one work for you?

i like burritos from los dos compadres.

As a bonus, there is a LBS that is only a few doors away that sells Electra bikes, which are just cool to look at. Coincidentally this LBS happens to be one that my parents bought bikes for my brother and me when we were kids. PS - like the new build. It looks like you're buying brand new BB5s, why not spend the little extra and get the BB7. I think it's worth the difference. The stem also seems long for an AM application. I thought the preference for that kind of build was short and stubby stems? 110mm seems pretty high. Is that what you like for a cockpit fit? |
yea...im 6 foot even so im kinda lanky, plus its only an 18 inch frame, and I also am gonna use this bike for XC as well so i think this set up would suit me best.
|
Wow. That's a lot of money, that would be my opinion. But then again, I'm pretty cheap.
You have your heart set on a RS fork? If you want "sick jumps and drops" you'd do well to consider, though it may weigh a little more, a Marzocchi for durability. Something in the 100-120 mm range if you want "all mountain" ability and still going single crown. |

For AM, I would think an 80 mm fork would not be enough travel. |
talk to aballas he did a motebecane build up a while back... http://photos-641.ak.facebook.com/ph...35641_4129.jpg
his bike |

i know 80mm of travel isnt enough, thats why I said I want to get the rockshox recon, 85 to 130 of travel in a spring coil fork...I watched a video of it in action and thought it was amazing. If your talking about my rear shock though, it has adjustable 3" to 5" of travel.
Anyone wants suggest a good AM/XC fork im all ears. |

Everyone has a right to express themselves in a public online forum, but not everyone should think they are better than anyone else despite the experience they have, or claim to have. Everyone at one time or another was new to this great sport and were ignorant and/or uninformed at one time or another. We should all be brothers and sisters-in arms and help each other achieve everything we desire in biking, and in life. Looking down and belittling another bicyclist regardless of experience should be punishable by castration.

It seems like you're buying a new bike, not upgrading what you have. I wouldn't bother with half platform pedals. They just make your bike easier to steal.
|
lol...well sometimes I like to just ride it around...and wouldnt want to have to put on special shoes just for that...and no im not buying a whole new bike...just a little bit more than half of a new bike
