Just Got A New Bike!

Hi,
I'm new to the forums and new to mountain biking in general. I know I didn't get the best bike in the world, but for the price I don't think you can beat it. It's a brand new Mongoose Blackcomb. It's got shimano everything and disc breaks. It's got a frame shock too. The square frame is awesome. Here's a link to the site. Look at it and let me know what you think. I plan to upgrade it in the future and right now I'm thinking about putting a Roxhsox Recon front suspension on it and a Fox rear suspension.

I totally forgot to say that I got the bike for $275 + high Tennessee sales tax for a grand total of just over $300.

I'll post some pics later. This is such an awesome mountain bike. I'm so excited.

Anybody else ride one of these? It's such a great value.

Thanks mccoine. What exactly is hucking? (I'm completely new to everything mountain biking and haven't even been on a bike in about 10 years)

Hucking has several meanings. The one I meant for you means to throw it into a scrap pile and leave it there so it can be made into something worthwhile like soda cans.

Why?
I took it on a trail with my cousin who's got a Cannondale and my bike did even better than his. For $300, a bike can't be that bad.

hm....yea prepare yourself your about to get a lot of crap...not only from whatever that is ,but also from people on this thread we/they dont really accept things walmart (x-mart) calls a "bike" im pretty sure it even has a sticker that says "Warning this bike is not intended for off road use" i would get your money back and buy a real bike....(sorry but its the truth) if you dont want to return it enjoy the heck out of it and when it breaks go to your LBS (local bike shop) and get something from there...

I have only ridden it once, and I cleaned it perfectly. Do you think walmart would take it back? And what could I get from a bike shop for $300 to $350.
Does anybody have any specific bad experience with Mongoose? I thought they made nice bikes, and the Blackcomb was next to top of the line at walmart.

So I just called Walmart, and they will take it back. I also called the Trek Bike Store close to me and they have a 2007 Trek 3900 I think for $320. It doesn't have a frame shock or disk brakes, but the guy who worked there said the front suspension is adjustable, which the Blackcomb doesn't have. Is that a good bike?

Yea its all good for $300 youre not going to get a full suspension...is that the only lbs near you??? test ride the trek before you give them the money...bikes around that price are all basically the same, test ride which ever feels right is the right one to get...

The Trek will be tons better than the Wal-Mart bike. The Wal-Mart bike will give you problems continuously and you are better off with the Trek. You will get more enjoyment out of the Trek even if it doesn't have rear suspension. The rear suspension on the Wal-Mart bike is actually a hindrance in that it probably pogos like crazy.

Good luck.

Thanks migoythepinoy. The Trek Store is the only one within an hour of my house. I've ridden a Trek 6,000 something and liked the way it feels. I think I'm going to go make the swap right now.

I guess I won't be back on here with the same name lol. I'll think of something better now that I'm getting a "real" mountain bike. And I'll post some pictures of it.

Thanks for your help.

Sweet bike. All you need now is lycra and a Powerbar and you will totally dominate the XC world.
