Eggbeater c vs sl
k guys, Its upgrade time!
Currently I am running shimano SPD's which are good, but not good enough.
I am looking at getting eggbeaters however, I am trying to decide between c's or sl's.
What are the difference? Is it worth another $43?

Actually I bought the c's over the sl simply because the c's can still be taken off with a 15mm pedal wrench. Pedals that require a hex pedal wrench annoy me.

True, and I love the SPD's I have now. However, Eggbeaters shed mud and are the easiest pedal to get into and out of (not to mention they look sick).

I have Eggbeater c's and sl's, Candy c's and sl's, Shimano 520's, and Quattro sl's.
I originally stopped using spd's and switched to Time pedals because of my nasty habit of buggering up pedals, rear derailleurs, derailleur hangers, and large chainrings. The spd's were simply a bit fragile for somebody who continually bashes their equipment on rocks. However, I keep a pair around for loaners because of the tension adjustment. When a friend wants to try clipping in, I can set it really low for them. The mud clearing ability of the Times and Eggbeaters is top notch but for me it's a rare event to ride in conditions where spd's won't work and the others wouldn't have some problems too.
Both pair of Time pedals were destroyed in the same 2-3 month period. They were about 2 years old. They were a tad heavy, but I actually liked them just a little better than the Crank Brothers because I didn't unintentionally pop out of them quite as easily. Then I got a smokin' deal on two pair of Candy's at the LBS and decided to move on anyway.
My Eggbeater c's were removed from the cyclocross bike they were on. They were originally put on there because I found commuting on the sl's wonderful. The Eggbeater sl's were destined for my pure unadulterated xc hardtail so I replaced them with some Eggbeater c's but there is something up with one of the four sides on the left pedal. Once I clip in, it doesn't want to let go so I put some Candy sl's on there instead. I suppose I should send them in.
Other than the color, I can't honestly tell the difference between my Candy c's and Candy sl's once they're on the bike. I prefer them to the Eggbeaters for everything but pure xc. Having that little bit of a platform available when I fail to clip on the first try is nice.
My guess would be the ever so slightly better materials makes the quality of the sl's a little more consistent than the c's. The weight difference is only worth $10 to me. Is a slightly better chance of getting a better working pedal worth the remaining $33 to you?
Oh, I realize this is a mountain biking forum but the Quattro road cleats are what sealed the deal for me. I've never found walking in road shoes easier and they're not difficult to drive in either.
