camping and biking in oregon

I was wondering if any of you from oregon have any suggestions on a place to go camp for a weekend that is around some sweet trails. I am considering going to do the mackenzie river trail and camp somewhere up there? Any ideas of a place to camp there? Or any other places elsewhere in the state?

It would also kinda be nice to be by some water since it is going to be so hot.

danke

The McKenzie River is an excellent place to bike and camp. There are so many places you can camp along the river... Just look for one of the many camping areas off the side of the road (HWY 126). Or, there are also many unofficial camp spots down the logging roads off the highway. My favorite area to stay is at Blue River Reservoir, which is about 45 min. east of Eugene. There are nice developed camp spots there, and also nice undeveloped spots further past the reservoir. The trail follows the river for many miles just west of Blue River. The reservoir is perfect for swimming, bridge jumping, etc.... Can't really beat that!!

My other favorite place is North Umpqua River. Very similar to McKenzie, but even more isolated. This is East of Roseburg. Very magical place, IMO the most beautiful forest in Oregon. The trail is very long, and follows the river more or less. So you can choose which sections to ride, and lots of camping areas around there. There is a great hot spring on a cliff overlooking the North Umpqua:http://genji.image.pbase.com/u26/gon...otSprings2.jpg

Any more questions, feel free to ask! Camping and mountainbiking in Oregon are two of my favorite things to do!

out by Bend/Sisters there's a lot of options too.

a few years ago we had the bachelor party weekend for a friend of mine at a campsite somehwere there (ride, sit around campfire and the we did an XC race in near Bend) -- i think about 15 miles east of sisters but i can't remember. sorry i don't remember the names of anythng out there, but the campground we stayed at had miles of trails right from camp.

but there are lots of trails, a few official campsites as well as possibilities to wild camp.

Paradise campground is very nice along the river. It's the first campground past McKenzie Bridge. You don't get the highway noise there. The last time I rode in Sisters in July the dust on the trails was about 4 inches thick.

thanks for your ideas. I think Im gonna head on up to the mackenzie trail and camping by that resivoir sounds pretty tight. bridge jumping and swimming are a-ok.

on the other hand... paridise campground sounds good too. no car traffic noise would be nice...

we'll see, i'll just go up and see which one i like.
