Specialized prices are going up.

I just ordered a 2008 Rockhopper for $530. The Specialized web sit lists it as $590. Because of new tariffs on certain Chinese imports--my bike shop tells me--all of Specialized bikes will go up in price by mid season. So, if you want a Specialized bike, don't wait too long to buy it.

There is "Suggested Retail" and "Advertised Retail". Manufacturer's show the Advertised retail on their site, which is the most a shop is allowed to sell the bike for. The lowest they can sell the bike for is suggested retail. That is so you see a price on the web, and you go into the shop, it will either be that price, or 80% of the time, less.

Prices going up mid season? HIGHLY doubt it.

Tariffs are generally imposed on incoming shipments (Plus, Spez imports thier bikes from Tiawan). To place new, price changing, tariffs on exports would be a huge disincentive for exports which would be opposite of the current Asian Mfg. mantra.
