1x9 drivetrain

Someone just stole my 29" singlespeed, so I'm building up a new bike. I liked the simplicity of the singlespeed, but with this new bike, I want some gears. Seems like a 1x9 setup will be the best of both worlds.

I'm curious as to exactly what components will work with this setup. I'm looking at the race face evolve ss crankset, an 11x32 rear cassette, and a Shimano LX M581 rear derailer. All on a Zion 737 frame. I've read that chain rub is a big problem with the 1x9 setup, but can't tell how much of a problem it is.

Can anyone give me any advice on this drivetrain setup, or my choice of components?

my friend has built the exact bike you want to build! he built the green frame up... ANYWAYS, i'll take a better look at his build and talk to you then.

Most downhill bikes have a 1x9 setup. Im not sure, but I think there shouldnt be much problem, otherwise downhillers wouldnt use it.

More info than you'll probably want is here.

unramped chainring + outer bashring + short cage rear mech/short as possible chain + this = sweet setup. You can easily run it without the bashring/N-gear, but those are nice extras, particularly if you use a bashring anyhow. Even with a good chainline/short chain, it's still possible to throw the chain inside or outside. Those two extra bits take care of that.
