This bike is good but heavy in the rear. I want to take a chunk of weight off the rear if possible. Tires seem to really matter becuase swapping them out among the ones I have here makes a big difference, but maybe there is a better way based on what you see here.

Probably the hubs, the weakest point i can find, if you really must spend money on it.
Seems pretty schweet already.

Hmm you are right for some reason I glazed over them. But how would I replace them anyways thats alot of work isnt it?

New hubs followed by new shifters. It's likely more cost-effective to sell the wheelset and buy a new one than to de-lace and re-lace the wheels. Change your shifters to something decent [XT or X-9] after they break.

Yeah I was thinking that too. If you're asking us, it means you don't really notice anything wrong with it (or at least you haven't mentioned it). Don't upgrade just for the sake of having more expensive components. Rock it until you feel like there's a deficiency in one of the components, then upgrade. And of course, upgrade when you break thing.

Course, changing to X-9 SRAM shifters would mean a new rear derailleur as well....

You are going to wear out/break stuff all the time. I would suggest replacing components with lighter/better stuff when this happens. You're not going to be able to take out giant chunks of weight, but you'll slim down over time!

Edit : I re read your *specs* . It indicates you have a Zero Stack Headset. I would say you should upgrade to a 3 or maybe 4 stack headset. You are not going anywhere with Zero Stacks.

powerlink os great, but its only good if your someone who needs to remove their chain all the time. just carry a chain break on your ride.

but as they say above, do it when something breaks. but remember to check your bike before every ride (or long ones atleast) just a five or ten min check to make sure everything is tight and working well. last thing you want to do is be on the trail and something breaks. especially since it always breaks at the furthest part of the trail from any where

Wait until something breaks or it starts to bug you and start from there. No reason to upgrade; your component set isn't bad at all.

but if you're into blowing money, start with your wheelset.

Maybe remove the saddle and seatpost. That can save you at least 500g.
