Hell yeah!



Yeah yeah, dork disc removal is my number one priority (after buying mountain shoes). I'm a roadie, but couldn't pass this one up. It's as light as I'd feel comfortable riding on the trails around here, and the price was right. 2007 model for $1150 out the door, cash.

Can't wait to ride this. Don't care about V-Brakes.

Ha! Sure. I checked out some Santa Cruz hardtails, and they were all about double the price for similar specs (though they all had hydro disc breaks). With Santa Cruz Chameleon, you pay $1100 for the FRAME ALONE. I paid that much for this bike. And Specialized's lifetime warranty beats Santa Cruz 2 years. If someone gave me one of those bikes, I'd love to ride it, but they suck as far as value.

This is going to replace my road bike as my ride around town, so I'll probably keep the reflectors for now.

You can hardly see it on that picture, but there's a plastic disc between the casette and the wheel spokes that prevents the chain from destroying the wheel in case of a possible overthrow... but they're pretty much useless if the bike is properly adjusted.

Nothing wrong with V brakes...put it this way they're lighter than disks. Just throw on some Kool-Stop pads and you're good to go. Sweet bike BTW.

too bad i don't know how to ride it. today i took a really nasty spill on the thing (hit a jump with my weight forward = ouch) i landed on my head and shoulder. the helmet is broken. my shoulder is probably broken, (i have to get it xrayed tomorrow), but thank god the bike is okay. that was my first concern when i snapped out of my daze.

the rear wheel went out of true earlier as well, but that's easily correctable. overall, the stumpjumper handles just amazingly. this is the first mountain bike with a truly adjustable lockout, which makes climbing almost as much fun as descending. the bike corners very well, although it could be better with different tires.

does anyone have any suggestions for decent trail tires? i haven't had a mountain bike for years so i'm a bit out of it.

hopefully i'm not off the bike for too long.

glad you found a good buy. who cares about the brakes. it would be better if they weren't even there. this way you won't ever be blamed for "skidding through corners" --as discussed in the other 3 page thread.

yeah. it was my first ride on the bike. now it looks like i might be off all bikes for 6-8 weeks

Ouch! I can identify with this. I've spent the last 10 years falling on water. It's been 10 years since I was BMXing. I'm now a roadie and bought my first Mountain Bike a month ago. Needless to say, I've crashed all over the place.

I had one crash where I slipped going uphill while trying to clip in. I hit a rock and went sideways and rammed the chain-ring into my calf. Lots of blood. Another spill involved crossing a stream over a tiny wooden bridge - I fell in the water, after hitting the bridge. My last crash saw me rolling over the handlebars and into my left elbow, all while clipped in. Logically my bike landed on me.

The bike still looks like new, with only a ghastly scratch on the top tube by one of the offending rocks. Haha, yesterday I stopped by the LBS and picked up some knee/shin guards and elbow pads. Due to the roadie background, it's hard to accept I'm going to be carrying extra weight. But who cares!
