Great looking bike. Do you know what the exact weight of the bike is?

Sorry about the spill man. That stinks to crash on your first ride on it. That is a really nice bike though. It looks cool as well. My last crash occured when I stabbed my chaing ring into a bridge and the bike was standing verticle when I bailed. I would of taken a chunk of wood out if I didnt unclip in time.

it feels a couple of pounds lighter than my friends bike which is 27.3, and several pounds heavier than my 18 pound road bike...
for a stock xc bike, that's not so bad! when i get more money, i may swap parts out for something lighter.
my upgrade schedule looks like this:
1) QR for the seatpost
2) New saddle
3) Hydro disc brakes
4) Easton EC70 handlebars

oh, and good news
about my shoulder! it's not broken. I have partially severed my AC ligament. It connects the clavicle to somethingorother. I really don't know, other than that it's not super serious, and I'll probably be back on the bike in 10 to 14 days
Plenty of time to get the wheel trued and a new saddle

I agree! I have never had a problem with v-brakes, even with stock replacement pads! Unless you want to spend the money, use the v-brakes.
That bike will last for ever! I am STILL riding my '96 M2Comp. & still love it.
What saddle came on your bike that you want to replace it? I bought the S.B.G. Avatar gel this spring & love it.
Congrats on the bike, & heal quick!

Pretty much all the non-moving parts on the bike are specialized. Specialized bar, stem, seatpost, tires, saddle. The saddle is way too big and cushy for me. I don't want something as hard as a road saddle, but definitely a little less cushy would be nice for my lycra-clad ass. I don't mind Specialized's saddles for the most part (have an Alias 143 on my road bike), but this one seems pretty bottom of the barrel.

Try this saddle: The photos don't show it because it's apparently a prototype, but the production model has kevlar side panels on the rear wings:
